A handcrafted kimono co.

KIM+ONO is a handcrafted kimono company, located in the heart of San Francisco’s Chinatown. Sisters Tiffany and Renee Tam, first met Danielle McWaters in 2015 when the brand existed for online purchase only. Since the KIM+ONO x Designsake partnership and friendship began, the brand has evolved into a beautiful brick-and-mortar store and a seamless ecommerce shopping experience with a global Instagram following.

Elevating the Everyday Inspired by a 30-year history of being a family owned and operated business, the KIM+ONO brand name speaks to its roots- two sisters on a mission to elevate the everyday. Each kimono features an original pattern, first sketched by hand, then saturated in rich watercolors using a traditional paintbrush. The Designsake Team honed in on this aesthetic to develop a fresh brand identity, featuring a soft color palette, a rich floral design element and a clean, strong logo that honors the brand’s traditional roots and use of soft, feminine textiles.
Sway this Way The KIM+ONO brand comes to life inside it’s first brick-and-mortar store. Danielle McWaters partnered with architect Alan Tse, to transform the old factory building into a modern, bright space, balanced with intentional minimalism. Furnished with high ceilings, brass and black finishes, a custom neon sign, and floor-to-ceiling mural, hand painted by local designer Valerie Santillo, it’s a breath of fresh air in the midst of San Francisco’s relentlessly busy, bustling Chinatown. In addition to racks of colorful, silk and charmeuse kimonos, the store is carefully curated with local artisans, jewelry and clothing. Don’t forget to pick up a copy of KIM+ONO’s Guide to Chinatown- a customized booklet, perfect for the San Francisco local or tourist.
